Balderdash: You Choose My Next Leader! A Poll.

This is the first time I've run a Poll on the blog.
I was looking at some of the minis I plan to use in the next Journeyman League for Warmachine & Hordes.
This time they are not limiting it to the official battleboxes, you can construct your own battlebox with any leader, and this made me want to run Circle and take Baldur.  A bit of background is in order...

If you aren't familiar with him or the game, Circle is the faction that is the 'Druid' faction: in D&D terms would likely be True Neutral.  They have information that the world will be destroyed by a terrible god, if humans continue to wake it up, which they are doing by expanding civilization.  So the only way to save the world is to cull civilization back, for the proper balance and all that.  These Druids are not mellow hippies.

Baldur is a Druid that specializes in the constructs: creating creatures made of rock animated by magic.
I love the idea of this, but to be blunt I didn't like the direction they took for the miniatures. I think the rock creatures are too tall, thin and geometric. I wanted more natural looking rocks, less crafted, so I sculpted my own. When I looked at the possible minis I could use for Baldur, since his official miniature is alright, but I find it kind of boring, I found I couldn't decide on which of three miniatures to use.

This is where you come in.
You get to pick which miniature I'll use for Baldur, the leader of the army I'll be using.

Here is the official mini that I won't be using:
To Vote in the Poll, just fill out your preference in the Poll at the top left of the blog.

Here are the choices, identified and listed in alphabetical order by the miniatures line it comes from, and each potential Baldur is posing with one of the Rock constructs (Wold Warden) to give a sense of how he'll fit in:

A.  Celtos:

B. Enigma:

C. Relics:

That is them, now it's up to you.  The Poll runs for about a week.
Let me know what you think, thanks for helping!

  1. I went with Enigma but I like the one you're not using a lot.

  2. I went for Enigma, the celtos mini looks too slender for a butch lad like Baldur...

  3. Go with the Celtos one, but Baldur needs a sword...

  4. I would pick the celtos model. I think it is more dynamic than the other two and will look better on the table once painted.

  5. Celtos one for me, it has a more dynamic pose

  6. Was I the only one that actually voted for celtos? I wrote the comment then went and voted but there´s only one for celtos..mine.
Maybe the vote box is too easy to overlook?

  7. I think the vote box is a bit slow to update, I voted after Fran and it said my vote was the only one...

  8. After consideration and reconsideration I went with Relic. Enigma was too... straightforward for lack of a better word. I loved the motion of the Celtos figure, and face matched the aesthetic of the construct better. In the end, what really convinced me was imagining what an entire Circle force would be like with models using the aesthetic of Relic model and the construct. Your blood bowl team show that you can pull it off. (I love telling people they should do a ton of work so I can enjoy pictures on their blog.)

  9. Celtos for me and vote cast accordingly. Just loved the pose and sculpt.

  10. Thanks for the input everyone!

Don't forget to use the poll though, maybe it is slow to update, I don't know, but it is showing 3 votes for Celtos, but I see 5 comments above saying they pick it, has to be in the Poll to be counted.

It has a week, so if it's just slow, it should update by the time I find out which wins.

  11. I also vote Celtos, the others seem too overly detailed especially when used with that stone construct. Just feels right.

  12. I was in doubt between the first two (Celtos and Enigma). The dynamics of the Celtos mini almost got the vote, but in the end, and taking into account the fluff background (wise and 'not mellow hippie') I felt the majestic/powerful pose of the Enigma fitted a lot better.
Besides he stands there like he's saying - "Running/fighting? Who, me? Please let me introduce you to this dear friend of mine Mr.'WoW'..."

  13. Enigma. He looks the business.. and nice start on the wold wardens.. am guessing that the tournament scene near you is not all that anal about using the proper models?

  14. Enigma for sure. He looks to fit the part with the wilds of circle's beasts. The Relic's model is too weak looking for my tastes. Celtos could work, but he is not as feral looking as Enigma

  15. I personally really like the stillness of the original, with just his hand extended. Not every model needs to be doing dynamic things. The epic Baldur model does angry and dynamic, which makes sense as he hulks out over the course of a game, but prime is a lot calmer.

Celtos one is just too skinny, and the weapon doesn't reflect Tritus (a long, heavy hitting weapon that inflicts slowing effects on the target) to me.

On the other hand, I really like the Enigma sculpt, and that he's still got that stillness (and a bit of burly) from the Baldur sculpt. I'd give his weapon a different head though. Either a hammer or a tetsubo-esque head. He'd look very Wulf Sternhammer with a hammer...

  16. Still a few more days left to vote.
Thanks for all the input so far!

Mr. Lee: It depends- local gaming & unofficial events don't seem to mind proxies, but official- yeah couldn't use this army I would think, but that's ok, I'm not real big on competitive tournaments, and Privateer tournaments seem to be cranked pretty high. From what I glimpsed at the Con I went to a couple months ago, it was only about the competition: a lot of unpainted armies playing on the hotel white tablecloths... no thanks ;) I would rather build the army I like the look of, and if that means it gets less games that is ok with me. I could always play the Skorne (or most of it)and keep 'Baldur's Boulders' for friendly games. To me, a tournament is an excuse to play a lot of games with a wider group of gamers, but if it moves too far from 'casual' or from aesthetic-driven hobby then I am fine to pass on it. The local group that plays is fine with conversions & other minis, so I'm lucky there :)

Fiendil: I like static minis for some things, not everything needs to be matrix-dynamic, I'd easily agree with that, and Baldur seems fine for a static pose, one of the reasons I liked the Enigma mini as a possible substitute. The official Baldur is ok, it just doesn't draw me like these other three, I think it's a combination of the head being down and hunched too much, like he's grumbling about the rain, and the shoulderpads. The shoulderpads bother me. They are so big and look snapped on like legos. Why would the only armor he wears be massive shoulderpads? If he raises both arms at the same time (a real possibility with a two handed sword) he's in danger of crushing his skull ;) I like the sword, I like the leather work details, if they'd raised his head some and not put those honking shoulderpads on him I might have thought of him as my first choice, but since he's more like 4th or 5th choice, I thought I'd try something else. he isn't a mini I wouldn't use, but wouldn't be an enthusiastic choice.
