John Carter of Mars - Teaser Trailer #1 (2011) HD

Along with Lord of the Rings, my favorite books growing up were Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom novels. Starting with A Princess of Mars.  May dad gave me a box of his old Bantam & Ace Burroughs paperbacks he had bought when he was a kid. Many sported the fantastic art of Frank Frazetta. In the box was the jungles of Tarzan's Africa, Mars, and a few glimpses of Venus, the Moon and even inside the center of our Earth.  To this day, Burroughs' (and Frazetta's) vision remains one of my all-time favorites and a big influence.

There are a few differences in details I imagined in the upcoming movie, but overall it's looking very good to my eye. I haven't been this exited for a movie since The Lord of the Rings.

You don't mind that your favorite story is getting the Disney Treatment? (I'm just curious; I haven't read these books, but they sound interesting.)

And is that a Batman logo on the guy's chest in the third painting? :)

Love these books. I used to hunt them down in second hand bookshops after reading A Princess of Mars at the public library as a kid.
I've been tempted by the Bronze Age line of 28mm minis many a time...

I don't mind Disney is doing it. I don't think it will become 'Aladdin' or similar. The books are pulp, so a touch of the over the top along the lines of 'pirates' wouldn't be out of place. The main actor looks younger than I imagined John Carter to be, but it'll probably be ok.

The batman logo.. looks like it doesn't it? I've never heard a story behind that, don't know if that is just coincidence.

Space: I haven't picked up any of the bronze age minis, but they do look nice! I also like the ones from Tin Man miniatures. I've edited this to include the Green Man I painted from their line.
