Exposing Troll Tentacles!

Just be glad that's all he's exposing! Considering trolls, it could have been much worse.

On the bench now is an Underworld Blood Bowl team- all converted from non-Blood Bowl mini sources: my favorite kind of project!  Underworld is an alliance of mutated goblins, skaven and warpstone-trolls.
The centerpiece for the team of course is the Warpstone Troll, and my client picked out one of my favorite minis for the basis: the metal Dire Troll Mauler from Privateer Press.  Just an awesome troll.

One of the best mutations for a troll is tentacles.  Makes for a great denial piece, and that way, if you can't spare anyone to be near the troll to prevent really stupid, he can still serve a purpose just with grabbing any enemy who try to leave his zone, without needing to do any action or roll a die.  So he wants a tentacle on the troll.

Not 100% finished, but here's the majority of it:
I wanted to do more than a 'whippy' tentacle, I wanted a true octopus tentacle.  It took quite a bit of time to build it all up in layers so it'd dry- can't do something like this in one go.

Gimmie a Hug!

That is awesome!

I have the makings of an Underworld team now too, just waiting for some love. I'm going with a yellow colour scheme, which I can then really dirty up for a 'from the sewers' look.

Great work on that tentacle Ferret. That Troll is going to be one mean looking beastie when you're done!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I appreciate it :) I don't get as much chance to sculpt things for clients as I do paint- more call for painting for one, and easier for someone to image what they see 'colored in' as opposed to imagining what isn't there. So it's fun when I get such opportunities.

Underworld is a fun team Paul, I'm sure your lad will enjoy pulping them ;)

Michael: yes, the Underworld will have plenty of glowing warpstone- they wouldn't get very far without their juice :)

Thanks Fran, I was particularly pleased with the suckers :)

- Made a lot of progress painting this guy (and the rest of the team) today, won't be long before they're finished.

This sounds like a fun project LF. I'm looking forward to seeing the final team pix.

That looks fantastic! Great sculpting work!

I've been trying to do some sculpting and converting myself for my orc team, but I have trouble forming the putty into a smooth surface. How do you manage to get yours so smooth?

Thanks Sqrl :) Team is almost done now.

Mattias: It can be annoying to get it smooth and without fingerprints. One thing about green stuff- when just mixed it is at it's most sticky, don't expect to do much with it in the first minute after mixing. Give it a bit of time, it heats itself,it'll be more malleable and less sticky if give it a bit of time (not too much obviously). build it up in layers- dont try to do too much all in one go. adding a thin layer on what you've already done that is cured already, and smooth it out- keep your fingers moist- water, saliva, mineral oil, even olive oil I've heard people use. I prefer a bit of water, saliva or human skin oil, as odd as it sounds, works great, just looking to have fingers a bit moist so that they don't stick and leave prints. just smooth over an area with your finger many times, 'burnishing' it. after it's cured you can sand and file any remaining rough spots & prints. when priming, just dust with primer first and check it- that will reveal anything you didn't see yet, then sand/file again. then finish priming.

Awesome. Thanks for the tips. I didn't think of sanding and filing, I guess cause I'd read that GS doesn't file well, but it makes sense-- especially because you can't really smooth down tiny details with your finger tips.

Thanks again!
